Mushroom and Onion Red Wine Sauce

I have been toying with sauces and I am so happy I have finally gotten this one exactly how I want it.  I was going for an easy savory sauce and this hits the nail on the head!  It can be paired with any red meat. The kids see the onion and run but it is such a good addition.  The red wine and the red onion really do compliment each other.

  • 7-9 Medium Mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 Red Onion (sliced)
  • 3 cloves of Garlic minced
  • 1/2 stick of Butter
  • 1 1/2 Cups of Red Wine (if you won’t drink it then don’t cook with it!)
  • 1tbsp All Purpose Flour
  1. Melt butter in a saute pan. dsc_0564
  2. On high heat saute mushrooms, garlic and onion.  Add salt and pepper.dsc_0566
  3. When the mushrooms are soft but not mushy add the wine and flour.
  4. Reduce heat to simmer.  Simmer until sauce is reduced.  This is sometimes time consuming.
  5. If you want to add herbs add them.  I usually do not.
  6. Once it is reduced you can spoon it over your meat of choice. dsc_0572
